I've broken out into itchy hives on my chest, upper arms, legs, and stomach. I'm chalking it up to a temporary allergy to grading and am self-medicating with 24-36 oz of beer followed by at least six solid hours of sleep.
I have also considered other potential sources of my allergic reaction:
- long-winded faculty meetings
- students with attitude
- over-medicating with chocolate
What makes YOU break out into (real or proverbial) hives?

Agh! Lack of sleep + over-medicating with chocolate and coffee will do that to me. I hope you feel better soon!
hahahahah.
My PI.
Feel better! And stop scratching!
It's very weird: if I hug my dog in the morning I get covered with little red itchy dots. This does not happen in any other moment of the day......
Faculty meetings...... yes, or at least almost!
real hives: fresh pineapple (but canned or cooked is ok), ants, mice and rats (complete with wheezing), michaloeb ultra and sometimes apples.
imagined: my old adviser, a couple old roommates and 1 old boyfriend :)
I enjoy your medication regimen!
Real hives: Stress and new detergents. Usually combined at conferences or interviews or visiting my in-laws.
Cheers to things clearing up soon!
Thanks, all. It's been very... illuminating to read about your allergens.
Hives have mostly disappeared.
Chronic stress during my postdoctoral fellowship caused me to break out in hives every night for about 3 months until I had a meeting with my PI to resolve the issue. Technically, I can't prove it was stress, but the hives went away the week I had the meeting and never came back.
Also got hives once from eating fish. Apparently sometimes they can contain high levels of histamine.
