Benefits to moving

I hate moving. I don't deal well with change or surprises. Although I'm very flexible professionally, the circus tricks stop at work.

But last night I realized that there are a few perks to packing. Obviously, it's a great chance to go through old crap, pare down your life, blah blah blah. But here are two perks I actually care about:

1. Money! I've found $15.68 in loose change going through boxes that I never fully unpacked. I've also found $3.42 in Canadian money and about four Euros in change.

2. I (re)found my thesis! It's not like it had gone missing, but I don't exactly keep in in a very accessible place.

Anyone else going through the moving process? Care to share other bonuses to relocating?

Right now, moving simply sucks; maybe I will think I have found some bonuses once I am done!

I move around a lot and other than the packing part, I actually do not mind it. I like getting to try new things at the new city. Being able to cancel gym memberships with no charge if you move to a city they are not located in. Taking yoga classes and availing of their new student deals. It's also fun to redecorate the new place...buy new furniture and decor. Lastly, exploring the new city is something I always look forward to especially finding the restaurant gems.

Umm, yes... like relocating countries, signing a rental agreement for the house to find out that the house is not to let (yet). Living atop of a chinese restaurant (with a very gross backyard) for 3 weeks, desperately hoping that the house will be ready once the moving van + children + extended pets will arrive... *sigh* I had everything planned our so well and these freaks from the letting agency turned it into a deasaster. Wish me luck. The packing will be done next week. Not looking forward to it.

I am moving on Wednesday. WEDNESDAY! I haven't started packing our 3 bedroom home complete with fully finished basement stuffed with more furniture. Not to mention my 17 tonnes of crafting supplies. GOD HELP ME. So. This weekend is a long weekend in Canada (something to do with the Queen of Englands birthday), and I am going to pack up the house like a mad women.

Cheers to moving! Sigh. I need a drink.

Ooh, ooh, after thinking hard about all the parts of moving that I hate, I thought of a good one... getting your security deposit back!

I hate moving too!!! I am in a frenzy of packing and last minute laundry right now. Sigh. I HATE this. And I haven't even found any money! :)

Love this post and the comments. I have been wanting to move for a while, although I hate the process of moving, I like the results. But that is my problem in general- I tend to be very oriented toward finishing things, but the actual doing part is rarely fun. Hang in there!

Thanks, everyone, for the encouragement! Luckily, I've got about 2 weeks to get everything packed up!

I'm definitely looking forward to exploring the new town. Actually, Rebecca, I didn't have a security deposit here (weird, I know). Keep looking, PhizzleDizzle; there's bound to be a quarter or four hidden amongst the couch cushions!
